President Pervez Musharraf’s ruling out the possibility of formation of a national government is clear enough to show the intention of his government to let the polls be held on time. The spokesman of the president Maj. Gen (retd.) Rashid Qureshi confirmed and affirmed the statement of the president, Demand of a national government is coming from those who overestimated their public support and that of their allies. They decided to boycott elections and they find themselves left alone in the lurch.
America and other western powers have already experienced their by asserting to have the elections on time. Postponement of election on one pretext or the other will not lead to any safe corner. When all major political parties are participating, a free and fair election is the only course which will take the wrecking ship to safe shore. A government of national consensus may be formed on the basis of the results of election by allowing all major political parties of the country to play their role in resolving the problems the nation is faced with. Boycotters will stay away with patience till the next elections after five years. To allow the elected government to complete its term is the most important element of the democratic process.
