The director of the the Central Intelligence Agency has said that Al-Qaida has found safe havens in Pakistan which poses a "clear and present" danger to the west. The CIA chief claimed that these safe havens have established near the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has threatened that any future attack against the US would originate from these safe havens.

I think that the director has made this claim in order to pressurize the newly formed Pakistan government. I question the reliability of the statement made by the director. Was it not the CIA which claimed that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? These weapons of mass destruction have yet to be found.

There is massive presence of US troops in Afghanistan. If we accept it for the sake of argument that the Al-Qaida has been able to establish safe havens along the border then the question arises as to what the US forces and other agencies are doing there to check this infiltration of Al-Qaida elements in Pakistan? Why have the US forces not been able to check it?

The new government has barely taken charge in the country when the US government has started its pressure tactics. The US government has created a hoax for its people in order to divert their attention from the real problems being faced by them.

pervez musharraf salutes President Pervez Musharraf has said that he will support the new government. He said this while addressing the nation on the occasion of Pakistan Day. He said that the country was entering a new era of democracy and hoped that the new government will work to maintain peace and economic growth and combat the challenges of terrorism and extremism vigorously.

I think that the president does not want any conflict with the new government and it is now the responsibility of the new government to provide relief to the common people and work for their betterment. I hope that the government does not enter into any unnecessary conflict with the presidency which has resulted in derailment of democratic process many times in the past.

We are certainly entering a new era as the president himself says and it is the responsibility of political leadership to take the country back forward on the road of democracy. Any confrontation with the president may satisfy their personal ego but it will not do any service to the nation.

McCain is considered a political maverick and he has unflinching support for the War in Iraq.

McCain was a candidate for the Republican party nomination in the 2000 presidential election as well but lost to George Bush. This time round he was a front runner from the very beginning and it had become obvious that he would get the nomination.

Senator McCain has served in US Navy and has been prisoner in the Vietnam for more than five year.

Lahore bomb blast The suicide bombers have struck yet again in Pakistan. This time the attack occurred at the Naval War College in Lahore which has left at least six dead and many injured.

A few days ago a serving lieutenant general of the Army Medical Corps was also killed in a suicide attack.

A suicide attack is a new phenomenon in Pakistan. We used to hear about such attacks in Palestine only. Now after the American War on Terror it has become so common in Pakistan that we hear about it almost every few days. The main reason for these suicide attacks is the lack of religious knowledge. Teenage boys are made to believe that they will enter paradise directly if they carry out the attack.

How can they hope to enter paradise when they kill their own fellow people without any reason. The extremist elements might have problem with Pervez Musharraf but what is the fault of a common bystander or an ordinary military personnel who is killed in the attack. It is obvious that these soldiers do not formulate government policies who have become the prime target of suicide attack.

It is time that the people of Pakistan stand up to weed out the menace of religious extremism from their society and the only way do that is by providing quality education.
