Demand for Hazara Province in Pakistan

In reference to Bilal Tanoli’s letter published in DAWN (June19) suggesting creation of Hazara Province Shahzeb Ahmed has adopted Master Tara Singh attitude to counter it. Another writer Tahir Iqbal Jadoon supported the view point of Bilal Tanoli.
At the time of partition India had only 14 04 15 provinces. Now, they have as many as 29 provinces. There is no harm in making new provinces for better administration. Any change within the frontiers of Pakistan can be made, but of course after threadbare discussion in the parliament and with consent of required majority.

EU sanctions against Iran

European Union States have agreed to impose new sanctions against Iran. The sanctions include:
i. the individuals will be banned entering the EU
ii. the entities will be banned from operating in the EU
The sanction will fall heavy on Iran.
Time and again Iranian leaders have explained that Iran’s nuclear enrichment work is for peaceful purposes. In such a situation, sanctions don’t seem to be justified. European Union should try to resolve this issue through diplomacy and peaceful negotiations.

PML - N disowns Supreme Court expansion

Expansion of Supreme Court was attached with the Finance Bill and it was by the parliament where PML-n members were present. There was no secret in it that the passing of the bill the SC will also stand expanded.
There is no wonder. Mian Sahib denies in the beginning but admits later on. What he disowns today, he will own after a few days.

American claim about Dr Qadeer network

According to American newspaper New York Times, America and IAEA have got some sensitive documents from Dr Qadeer Khan’s network regarding smuggling of atomic weapons. If Dr. Khan was under house arrest what were the document doing on the network? It all seems very fishy. Dr Qadeer Khan is not a traditional Khan. He is one of the best brains of this country.
People in Pakistan do not believe that Dr Qadeer has done any wrong. This is a sensitive issue for Pakistan and it must be dealt accordingly. The PML - N which has been claiming that it will make Dr Qadeer the president of the country has also not done anything. Dr Qadeer is still under detention. Does Prime Minister Gillani have any power at all?

It was said that former PM Shoukat Aziz was a showpiece prime minister only and the real powers were in the hands of President Pervez Musharraf. We are seeing a repetition of the same situation in the new government as well. It seems that PM Gillani is prime minister in name only. The real powers of the prime minister are being enjoyed by Asif Ali Zardari.
Important political and administrative decisions are being taken in the Zardari house. The prime minister only follows the instructions passed on to him by Zardari House. We can say that only names and faces have changed.

Five years of war in Iraq

The world has paid a very heavy price for the wrong US decision of mounting attack on Iraq. To punish one man, even if he was not a good ruler, and a handful of his supporters1 million innocent people have been killed and more than 40 thousand have been rendered homeless. And in this war, half as long as the Trojan War, American’s loss of over forty thousand soldiers is not insignificant. Either.
It has been proved beyond doubt that allegation of producing WMD was groundless .It was all a game for capturing of oil fields of Iraq. It had no connection of whatsoever with war on terror. The attack on Iraq was an act of terror in itself. Blood is thicker than water or not but Americans have proved that, blood is cheaper than oil.

Division of KESC

Saudi Aljomaih group, buyer of 73 % of KESC has off-shouldered its burden by selling 5o % of its share to the Dubai-based Abraaj group of company. The latter has promised to pay 400 million dollars to the government of Pakistan. Why? Not known.
According to an insider, Mr. Arif Naqvi is to take over as the new CEO of the KESC. We can only hope that the new change brings some relief to the public also and shedding of load is unloaded.

Our leaders without any exception are very large hearted. They want all members of their family in the parliament - brothers, sisters, sons-in-law and other near and dear ones. Without them they feel alone in the parliament and consider the democracy incomplete. A glance at the list of the members of parliament federal/provincial will remove all doubt. All from the family makes a good government.

It is in the air that in case of disqualification of Mian Shabaz Sharif , the Chief Minister of the province the PML-N would like to surrender the government to the PPP on the basis of a democratic theory that if the government is not in his family it should go to the other party.
Had the PML-N chief a bit large hearted and of a democratic bent of mind he should not have disturbed Sardar Latif Khosa . This young man should have been given a chance. However, it is never too late to mend.

APDM and General Musharraf

When a government of people’s elected representatives has come into existence and it has also started to function properly with full democratic glory APDM seems to be a superfluous organization. Moreover, it is no longer the APDM which was formed in the beginning. It is only a residual of APDM and gathering of boycotters having a strong will to rule the country without contesting elections.
The remainders of the former whole are not even opposition. They are self claimed people’s voice. They should leave the fate of General Musharraf to be decided by the elected members. APDM should not dictate.

Greater Thal canal

Nationalist leaders of Sindh have vehemently opposed the construction of Greater Thal Canal and they forcefully iterated that they would not tolerate construction of dams or canals on the soil of Sindh.
Nationalist leaders are lovers of the past .They don’t want that original beauty of the region should be spoilt by human hands. They are doing all this because they love their people. So far their personal lives are concerned, they can tolerate luxuries of modernism but they will never allow any body to spoil their people.

Unfortunately in Pakistan, political parties made it an election issue and after winning elections, shamefully forgot their promise.
PML - N of Nawaz Sharif had claimed that it will make Dr Qadeer the president of Pakistan after winning elections. It has not done anything even to secure his release from detention.

Before the formation of their government the leaders who are now in power and can do as they please, were crying hoarse that the previous government was unjustly increasing prices . Now they are telling that they cannot but increase electricity charges. They have not done anything to bring drown prices of other commodities either. Does anybody need to be told that our leaders are maters of rendering lip services? This is with reference to the statement of Federal Minister of Water and Electricity , Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
