The leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has warned against the presence of Taliban in Karachi. He has warned about the activities of Taliban in Karachi and this is borne out by the statement issued by Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umer that they can take over Karachi.

Strangely the Sindh government has brushed aside the threat as baseless and has accused MQM of baseless propaganda. Karachi is the most important and largest city of Pakistan and is rightly called the revenue engine of the country. It is necessary that the government takes such threat seriously instead of resorting to party politics. The fate of the city cannot be left in the hands of inept provincial home minister who has nothing to recommend him besides being a close friend of Asif Zardari.

Karachi has seen massive development work in recent years and is emerging as an important city in the region. It has the potential to grow and attract foreign investment. If proper steps are not taken to check the presence of Taliban in the city, it can be harmful for the whole of country in the long run.

It seems that oil prices will destroy the middle class in our country. The prices have reached a record 117 dollar per barrel and it seems that it will go still higher. Petrol is now becoming a luxury.

The government has increased petrol prices several times during the past two months and it is expected that the petrol prices in the country will be increased again in a few days.

An increase in petrol prices leads to an increase in all other essential items. People are finding it difficult to make both ends meet and if something is not done soon, the government will lose it popularity before long. The new government had promised the people that it will work to bring down the prices. Lets see if the government fulfills its promise.

One cannot get rid of hereditary line of thought. All claims of being impartial and fair to all prove to be mere rhetoric and juggling. It is impossible for our rulers to come to power and forget the past. They can change all other policies of their predecessor except the policy of revenge. They will start from where they had left in their previous turn.

The present government will do nothing different. Transfer and posting of police officials on such large scales and favourites finding special posts are clear indications .What is going to happen in Karachi this time no one can imagine because this time those two parties have united whose governments were dismissed on account of extra judicial killings but people involved got scot free. Services of experts are being borrowed. Doctorate in criminology, Shoaib Suddle has arrived; his team is expected to follow soon. God save the people.

According to a news report published the News the splinter group of MQM Haqiqi lead by Amir Khan and Afaq Ahmed will be allowed to resume its political activities soon.

“The government has decided to allow the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi to resume its political activities,” highly reliable sources in the ruling coalition said on condition of anonymity. “The Haqiqi group had been pushed to the wall under the Musharraf regime,” they said.

The report says that the government has decided to review cases against the Haqiqi leaders all those cases will be withdrawn where the involvement could not be proved.

I think that the government intends to withdraw the cases instituted against the Haqiqi leaders under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) which may be made a part of a constitutional package in the coming days to give it protection of the constitution.

The report also says that the Bait-ul-Hamza headquarter will also be rebuilt which was demolished in 2002.

This does not augur well for the province of Sindh, particularly for the people of Karachi. The workers of MQM Haqiqi had been involved in a large number of violent incidents in the city in which many people had lost their lives. The Haqiqi comprised all those elements of the MQM which were purged by the party on various grounds. In 1992 they came to the city when a military operation was launched in the urban areas of Karachi and were responsible for the killing and torture of a large number MQM workers and sympathizers.

The Co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Mr. Asif Ali Zardari arrived at Nine Zero after talking to Mr. Altaf Hussain the leader of MQM. Mr. was warmly welcomed at Nine Zero by the workers of MQM.

zardari and farooq sattar

Both the parties have a bitter past and hence this move is viewed as very significant by the people. A workable alliance between the People’s Party and the MQM can bring peace and stability in the province of Sindh and its capital Karachi. The people’s party belongs to the rural areas of the province whereas the MQM is mainly concentrated in the urban areas. If the PPP and the MQM move forward this would bridge the rural urban divide in the province.

I have best wishes for the two parties and hope that they foil all conspiracies and bring peace and prosperity for the people whom they seek to represent.

altaf hussain The leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain has asked the people of the Punjab to try MQM in the coming elections. Mr. Hussain said this in his telephonic address in connection with the election campaign which was relayed in ten cities of the province at a time. He said that MQM was against feudalism and wanted to rid the country of its menace.

I think that MQM should be given credit for starting a new culture in the politics of the country where people from middle class could aspire to become members of parliament and legislative assemblies. It has amply demonstrated this by giving tickets to common people. It is the only party in country whose leader has kept himself away for holding any public office.

MQM has shown keen interest in the development of of the areas from where its members have been elected. Karachi is fast emerging as a new city with rapid investment in infrastructure and other facilities for the common people.
