Across board accountability

Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is all out to get President Musharraf impeached. He is also expressing his desire to hold President Musharraf accountable for American aid extended for fighting terrorism.
Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan is of the opinion that there should be an across-the-board accountability of both President Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari. According to Tehrik-e-Insaf Chief Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has about 60 million euros deposited in Swiss banks. Is it not fair?

Government not to provide relief to the people
Filed Under PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
The federal government has reduced the customs and deemed duty on petroleum products by 25 per cent but it has decided to use the average Rs. 4.30 per liter for budget financing instead of passing it on to the consumers. There has been a downward trend in the international market and prices have fallen down nearly 20 dollar per barrel.
I think that the government should have lowered the prices keeping in view this downward trend and passed on the benefit from reduction in customs and deemed duty to the people. It is unfortunate that the government which claims to be people’s government has so far not taken a single decision in the interest of the people.
It has increased prices of all necessary things, including petroleum a number of times which has made earning means of livelihood more and more difficult for the poor people.
We look forward to the day when the government will be able to pass some financial benefit to the common people of the country. So far it has been blaming the previous government for all the bad things, but soon a time will come when they will no longer be able to use this lame excuse as well.

Unbailable warrants against Peraiz Elahi
Filed Under PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
After his exoneration from the charges of raping a girl, Dr. Masood filed a defamation suit against former chief minister Pervez Elahi, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and nine others men of repute and position and the additional district and session judge, Mohammad Masood Bakhsh Hashmi has issued non- bailable warrants of arrest for them.. The honorable judge has ordered the Inspector General of Punjab Police to produce these men of pelf and power before the court on July 25.
This is a case of independence of judiciary. Will the supporters of independent judiciary who are moving heaven and earth for restoration of particular judges help the court in dispensing a fair judgment? Will the IGP Punjab fulfill the demand of justice?

Cold war among coalition parties in Pakistan
Filed Under MQM, PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
Grave concern has been expressed by Richard Boucher, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, over the prevailing cold war atmosphere among coalition parties of the Government of Pakistan.
Cold war is actually an exaggerated term. There are certain reservations which once removed will get every thing all right… Restoration of deposed judges is the main issue. Unless this is resolved relationship cannot be normalized.

Constitutional package : an apple of discord

The so famed constitutional package has been floated not for solving any problem. It is just to keep people engage maintain silence in order to study the package. It has as many as 80 articles or points to agree upon. Those who could not agree on one point i.e. restoration of judge, how can they come to an agreement on 80 points? One apple became the cause of burning the city of Troy; 80 points can bring about any amount of destruction.

Expansion of Supreme Court was attached with the Finance Bill and it was by the parliament where PML-n members were present. There was no secret in it that the passing of the bill the SC will also stand expanded.
There is no wonder. Mian Sahib denies in the beginning but admits later on. What he disowns today, he will own after a few days.

American claim about Dr Qadeer network
Filed Under PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
According to American newspaper New York Times, America and IAEA have got some sensitive documents from Dr Qadeer Khan’s network regarding smuggling of atomic weapons. If Dr. Khan was under house arrest what were the document doing on the network? It all seems very fishy. Dr Qadeer Khan is not a traditional Khan. He is one of the best brains of this country.
People in Pakistan do not believe that Dr Qadeer has done any wrong. This is a sensitive issue for Pakistan and it must be dealt accordingly. The PML - N which has been claiming that it will make Dr Qadeer the president of the country has also not done anything. Dr Qadeer is still under detention. Would Mr. Nawaz Sharif fullfil his promise which he made to the nation

Does Prime Minister Gillani have any power at all?
Filed Under PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
It was said that former PM Shoukat Aziz was a showpiece prime minister only and the real powers were in the hands of President Pervez Musharraf. We are seeing a repetition of the same situation in the new government as well. It seems that PM Gillani is prime minister in name only. The real powers of the prime minister are being enjoyed by Asif Ali Zardari.
Important political and administrative decisions are being taken in the Zardari house. The prime minister only follows the instructions passed on to him by Zardari House. We can say that only names and faces have changed.

APDM and General Musharraf
Filed Under PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
When a government of people’s elected representatives has come into existence and it has also started to function properly with full democratic glory APDM seems to be a superfluous organization. Moreover, it is no longer the APDM which was formed in the beginning. It is only a residual of APDM and gathering of boycotters having a strong will to rule the country without contesting elections.
The remainders of the former whole are not even opposition. They are self claimed people’s voice. They should leave the fate of General Musharraf to be decided by the elected members. APDM should not dictate.

Pervez Musharraf planning exit
Filed Under MQM, PML, PPP, Pakistan | Leave a Comment
According to a report published in the Telegraph Pervez Musharraf is considering stepping down as the election results went against his expectations and the people of the country voted for the opposition parties.
I am not a supporter of military rule and want democracy to flourish in the country but in my opinion Pervez Musharraf has been the best ruler in the entire history of Pakistan.
Pervez Musharraf came to power when he dismissed the Nawaz Sharif government. The coup was widely welcomed by the people of the country and Mr. Musharraf was at the height of popularity in his initial three years. This was the time when he kept the politicians at bay and governed the country directly.
The Nawaz government which he dismissed was widely regarded as corrupt and inefficient. It was during the Nawaz government that his accountability chief Saifur Rehman registered numerous cases against Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari.
Pervez Musharraf is being accused of maligning the judiciary but it was during the Nawaz Sharif government that the Supreme Court was attacked by the leaders and thugs of the PML(N).
It was during the Nawaz Sharif government that military was sent to civilian institutions in large number. Chief examples are the Water and Power Development Authority and the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation.
Pervez Musharraf is being accused of making the parliament a rubber stamp. When Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister of the country even constitutional amendments were done in few minutes.
Pervez Musharraf is accused of suppressing the press freedom but it was during the Sharif government that newsprint quota of an Urdu newspaper Jung was denied.
Pervez Musharraf is also accused of a role in the missing person case which was being investigated by the Supreme Court. It was during the Sharif government that a large number of people was killed in Karachi in both Sharif and Benazir governments. Several persons went missing whose whereabouts have not been traced as yet.
I think that Mr. Pervez Musharraf should step down and hand over the power to the so called leaders of the people. The people of the country have spoken very loudly that they do not need an honest man.
