Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is all out to get President Musharraf impeached. He is also expressing his desire to hold President Musharraf accountable for American aid extended for fighting terrorism.

Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan is of the opinion that there should be an across-the-board accountability of both President Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari. According to Tehrik-e-Insaf Chief Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has about 60 million euros deposited in Swiss banks. Is it not fair?

The federal government has reduced the customs and deemed duty on petroleum products by 25 per cent but it has decided to use the average Rs. 4.30 per liter for budget financing instead of passing it on to the consumers. There has been a downward trend in the international market and prices have fallen down nearly 20 dollar per barrel.

I think that the government should have lowered the prices keeping in view this downward trend and passed on the benefit from reduction in customs and deemed duty to the people. It is unfortunate that the government which claims to be people’s government has so far not taken a single decision in the interest of the people.

It has increased prices of all necessary things, including petroleum a number of times which has made earning means of livelihood more and more difficult for the poor people.
We look forward to the day when the government will be able to pass some financial benefit to the common people of the country. So far it has been blaming the previous government for all the bad things, but soon a time will come when they will no longer be able to use this lame excuse as well.

The minister for finance has said that CNG dealers would be required to charge only the price of gas set by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority OGRA. He said that he was surprised as to why CNG dealers are being allowed to charge a price of their own choice.

Good sayings Mr. Minister. You must be surprised. It is only because the PPP government has no concern for the welfare of the people whom it seeks to represent. Had it been sincere in its protestations to give relief to the people, it would have never allowed CNG dealers association to work as a cartel and increase prices on their own. The CNG dealers are charging nearly 6 rupees per kg more than the price set by the government.

After his exoneration from the charges of raping a girl, Dr. Masood filed a defamation suit against former chief minister Pervez Elahi, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and nine others men of repute and position and the additional district and session judge, Mohammad Masood Bakhsh Hashmi has issued non- bailable warrants of arrest for them.. The honorable judge has ordered the Inspector General of Punjab Police to produce these men of pelf and power before the court on July 25.

This is a case of independence of judiciary. Will the supporters of independent judiciary who are moving heaven and earth for restoration of particular judges help the court in dispensing a fair judgment? Will the IGP Punjab fulfill the demand of justice?

This is nothing new. Pakistani analysts have said it long before. The reasons hinted are also the same.

Grave concern has been expressed by Richard Boucher, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, over the prevailing cold war atmosphere among coalition parties of the Government of Pakistan.

Cold war is actually an exaggerated term. There are certain reservations which once removed will get every thing all right… Restoration of deposed judges is the main issue. Unless this is resolved relationship cannot be normalized.

The so famed constitutional package has been floated not for solving any problem. It is just to keep people engage maintain silence in order to study the package. It has as many as 80 articles or points to agree upon. Those who could not agree on one point i.e. restoration of judge, how can they come to an agreement on 80 points? One apple became the cause of burning the city of Troy; 80 points can bring about any amount of destruction.

According to American newspaper New York Times, America and IAEA have got some sensitive documents from Dr Qadeer Khan’s network regarding smuggling of atomic weapons. If Dr. Khan was under house arrest what were the document doing on the network? It all seems very fishy. Dr Qadeer Khan is not a traditional Khan. He is one of the best brains of this country.

People in Pakistan do not believe that Dr Qadeer has done any wrong. This is a sensitive issue for Pakistan and it must be dealt accordingly. The PML - N which has been claiming that it will make Dr Qadeer the president of the country has also not done anything. Dr Qadeer is still under detention. Would Mr. Nawaz Sharif fullfil his promise which he made to the nation

It was said that former PM Shoukat Aziz was a showpiece prime minister only and the real powers were in the hands of President Pervez Musharraf. We are seeing a repetition of the same situation in the new government as well. It seems that PM Gillani is prime minister in name only. The real powers of the prime minister are being enjoyed by Asif Ali Zardari.

Important political and administrative decisions are being taken in the Zardari house. The prime minister only follows the instructions passed on to him by Zardari House. We can say that only names and faces have changed.

When a government of people’s elected representatives has come into existence and it has also started to function properly with full democratic glory APDM seems to be a superfluous organization. Moreover, it is no longer the APDM which was formed in the beginning. It is only a residual of APDM and gathering of boycotters having a strong will to rule the country without contesting elections.

The remainders of the former whole are not even opposition. They are self claimed people’s voice. They should leave the fate of General Musharraf to be decided by the elected members. APDM should not dictate.

The co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari has said that if need be he would become the prime minister. He said this while giving an interview to the BBC Urdu. Asif Zardari has said that he will contest on a National Assembly seat in the coming by-election.

Interestingly the supreme court is hearing a petition challenging the graduation condition which was inserted in the political parties act by President Pervez Musharraf and it enjoys constitutional protection given to it by the Constitution seventeenth amendment.

It is expected that the supreme court will strike down this condition in a few days and Mr. Zardari will be able to contest the election. The date for by-election has already been moved forward without any valid reason. I think that this has been done to facilitate Mr. Zardari.

One cannot get rid of hereditary line of thought. All claims of being impartial and fair to all prove to be mere rhetoric and juggling. It is impossible for our rulers to come to power and forget the past. They can change all other policies of their predecessor except the policy of revenge. They will start from where they had left in their previous turn.

The present government will do nothing different. Transfer and posting of police officials on such large scales and favourites finding special posts are clear indications .What is going to happen in Karachi this time no one can imagine because this time those two parties have united whose governments were dismissed on account of extra judicial killings but people involved got scot free. Services of experts are being borrowed. Doctorate in criminology, Shoaib Suddle has arrived; his team is expected to follow soon. God save the people.

In an editorial published in the Dawn about the break up of talks between the PPP and the MQM. PPP is largely based in the rural areas of the province and MQM has strongholds in the urban areas. If MQM does not become a part of power sharing formula in the province, it will widen the rural urban divide. The newspaper has asked both the parties to "ensure that the rural urban divide in the province is not deepened, or worse still, exacerbated."

Talks between the two parties failed when MQM said in a press conference that it has decided to sit in the opposition both in the province and at the centre because the PPP was not serious in the talks and the committee formed by the PPP to hold talks with MQM was giving it a cold shoulder.

MQM has also expressed reservation about the appointment of Shoaib Suddle as the Inspector General of Sindh. Shoaib Suddle was the Deputy Inspector General of Sindh when an operation was against and he was accused of carrying out extra judicial killing. Shoaib Suddle was also nominated in the murder of Murtaza Bhutto, the younger brother Benazir Bhutto. It now seems that the officers involved in Murtaza Bhutto murder case are being rewarded.

The newspaper has said that " it is intriguing that the MQM should take a dim view of Dr. Suddle’s appointment as the Sindh police chief when it has actually patronized many police officers who were believed to have been actively involved in the Karachi operation."

I think that the obvious reference is to Choudhry Aslam who was made the head of an elite team to fight gang warfare in the Layari area Karachi.

The National Assembly of Pakistan has passed a resolution asking the government to approach the United Nations for an investigation into the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on the lines of the investigation made by the international body for the murder to Rafik Hariri, the former primer minister of Lebanon.

The law minister has said that the government will move the Security Council of the United Nations as soon as possible for setting up a panel for identifying the culprits, perpetrators, organizers and financiers behind the heinous crime.

The Pakistan People’s Party has been demanding a UN investigation into the murder of Benazir Bhutto from the very beginning and prime minister Gilani has said in his first speech in the National Assembly that his government will call for a UN investigation to identify the true culprits.

Such high profile political murders in the country have always remained undetected. It will be better for the country if the true people behind the incident are identified and brought to justice by the long arm of the law.

I would like to make one comment on this story. The government must also launch an inquiry into the events after the death of Benazir Bhutto in which extensive damage was done to the public and private property and banks were looted and the province of Sindh remained paralyzed for nearly three days.

The Co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Mr. Asif Ali Zardari arrived at Nine Zero after talking to Mr. Altaf Hussain the leader of MQM. Mr. was warmly welcomed at Nine Zero by the workers of MQM.

zardari and farooq sattar

Both the parties have a bitter past and hence this move is viewed as very significant by the people. A workable alliance between the People’s Party and the MQM can bring peace and stability in the province of Sindh and its capital Karachi. The people’s party belongs to the rural areas of the province whereas the MQM is mainly concentrated in the urban areas. If the PPP and the MQM move forward this would bridge the rural urban divide in the province.

I have best wishes for the two parties and hope that they foil all conspiracies and bring peace and prosperity for the people whom they seek to represent.

mush190 According to a report published in the Telegraph Pervez Musharraf is considering stepping down as the election results went against his expectations and the people of the country voted for the opposition parties.

I am not a supporter of military rule and want democracy to flourish in the country but in my opinion Pervez Musharraf has been the best ruler in the entire history of Pakistan.

Pervez Musharraf came to power when he dismissed the Nawaz Sharif government. The coup was widely welcomed by the people of the country and Mr. Musharraf was at the height of popularity in his initial three years. This was the time when he kept the politicians at bay and governed the country directly.

The Nawaz government which he dismissed was widely regarded as corrupt and inefficient. It was during the Nawaz government that his accountability chief Saifur Rehman registered numerous cases against Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari.

Pervez Musharraf is being accused of maligning the judiciary but it was during the Nawaz Sharif government that the Supreme Court was attacked by the leaders and thugs of the PML(N).

It was during the Nawaz Sharif government that military was sent to civilian institutions in large number. Chief examples are the Water and Power Development Authority and the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation.

Pervez Musharraf is being accused of making the parliament a rubber stamp. When Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister of the country even constitutional amendments were done in few minutes.

Pervez Musharraf is accused of suppressing the press freedom but it was during the Sharif government that newsprint quota of an Urdu newspaper Jung was denied.

Pervez Musharraf is also accused of a role in the missing person case which was being investigated by the Supreme Court. It was during the Sharif government that a large number of people was killed in Karachi in both Sharif and Benazir governments. Several persons went missing whose whereabouts have not been traced as yet.

I think that Mr. Pervez Musharraf should step down and  hand over the power to the so called leaders of the people. The people of the country have spoken very loudly that they do not need an honest man.

benazir1 The Scotland Yard team investigating the murder of Benazir Bhutto has concluded that she had died as a result of a head injury which was caused by the impact of the explosion. The report says that she was not killed by a bullet injury. The report says that she was killed by one assassin as against the speculations that she was attacked by more than one person.

Whatever the cause of the injury which resulted in her death, the fact remains that she was killed as a result of an attack. The Scotland Yard report remains inconclusive as they have not made any headway towards detecting the real people behind the plot. It is clear that the assassin was not acting on his own.

It is unfortunate that such high profile political murders remain undetected. Benazir Bhutto herself did not carry out proper investigation of the murder of her brother Mir Murtaza Bhutto who was killed by the police in mysterious circumstances when she was the prime minister.

benazir According to reports the team investigating the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has arrested two people allegedly involved in the killing.

The Additional DIG CID Punjab Choudhry has confirmed the arrests. It is believed that the accused Rafaqat and Hasnain were arrested ten days ago but their arrest has been made public now. Meanwhile the Scotland Yard team which has returned to Pakistan.

I hope that the investigation will lead to proper conclusion and will not meet the same fate as the investigation of other high profile political murders in the country. The government must detect the real people behind the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto and try them in a court of law. This will restore the confidence of the people in the performance of the plethora of government agencies which are generally held in contempt by the people. It is time the culture of political killings is eliminated from the country and political differences are settled through dialogue in civilized manner.
