In The Line of Fire (General Musharraf), Good Bye Shahzadi (Shyam Bhatia) and Crossed Swords (Shuja Nawaz) are three books revealing three secrets. Reading of the first two books discloses upon the readers involvement of the people helping North Korea in becoming a nuclear country and the third one raises the curtain revealing the mysterious death of Army Chief General Asif Nawaz.

Whatever may be the truth but these books sold like hot cakes and their authors earned name, fame and a lot of money.

Passport fee and senior citizens

Mr. K. Naqvi, a senior citizen, in his letter published in DAWN(July 01) write that there has been out of proportion increase in passport fee .He gives the history of increase in fee Rs. 10 before 1958, Rs. 25 in Ayub Khan’s time, Rs 200 in ZAB period and now as high as Rs. 2100. He requests the government to bring the passport fee down to Rs.200 as t was during Z A Bhutto’s rule.

The senior citizen forgot to mention that in Ayub Khan’s time a lecturers starting salary was Rs.300-350 and price of Atta was Rs.20 per maund (about 37 kg) and in ZAB’s time abut 5 maunds of Atta could have been bought. Now, find the proportion.
However the passport can be reduced for senior citizens only and if affordable by the government senior citizens can b totally exempted fro payment of fee.

Five years of war in Iraq

The world has paid a very heavy price for the wrong US decision of mounting attack on Iraq. To punish one man, even if he was not a good ruler, and a handful of his supporters1 million innocent people have been killed and more than 40 thousand have been rendered homeless. And in this war, half as long as the Trojan War, American’s loss of over forty thousand soldiers is not insignificant. Either.

It has been proved beyond doubt that allegation of producing WMD was groundless .It was all a game for capturing of oil fields of Iraq. It had no connection of whatsoever with war on terror. The attack on Iraq was an act of terror in itself. Blood is thicker than water or not but Americans have proved that, blood is cheaper than oil.

Greater Thal canal

Nationalist leaders of Sindh have vehemently opposed the construction of Greater Thal Canal and they forcefully iterated that they would not tolerate construction of dams or canals on the soil of Sindh.

Nationalist leaders are lovers of the past .They don’t want that original beauty of the region should be spoilt by human hands. They are doing all this because they love their people. So far their personal lives are concerned, they can tolerate luxuries of modernism but they will never allow any body to spoil their people.

American claim about Dr Qadeer network

According to American newspaper New York Times , America and IAEA have got some sensitive documents from DR. Qadeer Khan’s network regarding smuggling of atomic weapons. If Dr. Khan was under house arrest what were the document doing on the network? It all seems very fishy. Dr. Qadeer Khan is not a traditional Khan. He is one of the best brains of this century.

People in Pakistan do not believe at all that Dr Qadeer is responsible for any wrong. It is belived that he is being made a scapegoat to save other. This is a sensitive issue for the people of Pakistan and it must be dealth with accordingly. Unfortunately in Pakistan, political parties made it an election issue and after winning elections, shamefully forgot their promise.

PML - N of Nawaz Sharif had claimed that it will make Dr Qadeer the president of Pakistan after winning elections. It has not done anything even to secure his release from detention.
